Originating from Maoer Shan (Cat Mountain) in Xing'an county, north of Guilin, the Li River winds its way south for about 437 km, passing through Guilin, Yangshuo, Pingle and Zhaoping, and finally meets the Xi (West) River at Wuzhou. It boasts the largest and most beautiful scenic area in China and attracts thousands of visitors each year.

Moon Hill

Moon Hill is a hill with a natural arch through it a few kilometers outside Yangshuo. It is so named for a wide, semicircular hole through the hill, all that remains of what was once a limestone cave formed in the phreatic zone. Like most formations in the region, it is karst. It is also a popular tourist attraction.

Yulong River

A major tributary of Li River, Yulong River flows through some of the most beautiful Karst (limestone) scenery near Yangshuo. Local people use rafts as daily transportation up and down the river between house, markets, and rice paddies. Some villagers made bigger rafts and started to woo the travelers and soon it became a highlight of tour around Yangshuo. Sitting on the reclining chair on the raft, you can enjoy an all around view of the natural, rural life down the river.

Water Cave

Longmen Water Cave was a recently opened sights, in Longmen vilige, 3km from Moon Hill. It is the largest and one of the most exciting natural caves to explore in Yangshuo. The whole cave is about 3km long and runs through 3 mountains. The water in the cave is 0.5m deep and has a gentle flow which is clean and safe.

Buddha Cave

Buddha Cave is located opposite Moon Hill in Yangshuo. It has an underground network of subterranean passageways that stretches for 5 km and passes through 3 mountains. It is claimed that 10,000 people could actually fit into the cave itself.

Yulong Bridge
On Yulong River Near Baisha Town
This 600 year-old stone bridge is the launch point for bamboo rafts and at quiet times of the afternoon, is a perfect swimming area. Local kids jump off the 10m highest point of the bridge into the river below. The Yulong Bridge is 20km up river from Yangshuo Mountain Retreat.

Liu Sanjie Show (Impression Liu Sanjie)

This famous water staged-show in Yangshuo had its premier in 2004 and is billed to be the largest natural stage in the world. The Liu Sanjie (The Three Liu Sisters) was created and choreographed by legendary Chinese director, Zhang Yimou, who also created and directed the opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympics.
The outdoor amphitheatre is located about 2 km from West Street and the show is performed on the Li River itself. Twelve karst hills are illuminated, highlighting the area's natural geological wonders as a backdrop to the stage. The show can appear different each performance, as mist, rain, clouds and varying moonlight naturally alter the set of the stage. The show features more than 600 local people, who are mainly farmers, fisherman and young children from surrounding villages to perform to an audience of up to 10,000.
